Lately, it feels like every sentence about playgrown begins "I'm so excited." I recall conversations when I was on the Wisconsin Humanities Council "Don't tell us something is exciting or fun, show us." Well. here's a little taste of things to come in Detroit and hopefully Kalamazoo as we gear up to raise funds to start designing and building the first playgrown installation on Detroit's east-side. To create this approximation of a playgrown installation, friend, colleague and team-member Damon Dickerson incorporated ideas drawn from early playgrown drawings and visions and the innovative input of Carlos Nielbock, Craig Wilkins, Laura Sprague and Tyree Guyton.

Just did my first Parkour class. So thankful for Laura Sprague and my core work with her. I was NOT prepared for 5 minutes of the monkey crawl on the cement though! No tall walls, but lots of jumping up on pylons, up walls, over fences, across small chasms and hanging from a brick wall. I'm slightly scratched and colorfully bruised, but it was confidence building, intense and fun! No pics though... too busy doing. Kudos to lead teacher Shirley who has a wonderful philosophy of the link between life and Parkour play and her lovely inspiring assistant who insisted I get back down on all fours and complete the Monkey crawl!
My favorite equipment at the Senior Playground in Hyde Park. It's called the Runner, but it feels more like gliding/flying. Loved it! Hope to see some people playing at it tomorrow.
While Hyde Park is looking for more integrative play in the park, it was great to see fitness training groups, kids on recess and runners choosing a softer, more gentle surface. One did need to look out for horse clumps!
Taking a beginning Parkour class for women tomorrow evening. So excited and scared! Let the play continue.
Seminars, Workshops and Events | Parkour Generations www.parkourgenerations.com I'm here at the Re Lodon Hotel in Shoreditch in East London. So many languages and so many little parks including an enticing BMX park. I can't wait to get my running shoes on and go play!
Feet have touched down in London and I can't wait to meet people who create playgrounds for adults! I'm thrilled to enter an international community of believers.
